Stilbaai Funduro 2022
This is the fourth running of this event, and following feeedback from riders, the route has been shortened to 60km on a mostly new track with more technical sections.. Level of difficulty: Moderate.

The track has changed quite significantly since the previous years as it will be much slower with technical climbs where there is no space to overtake. Riders with intermediate skill levels will find this track interesting and challenging, but not undoable. Skilled riders will easily overcome the technical and more challenging sections.

Over 200 riders participated in last year’s event and the organisers are hopeful that this year the event will even be bigger and better.

Track Overview
We start off with some hard pack jeep track changing to loose, sandy soil to give riders the opportunity to pass each other before the technical sections start. At about the 3km mark you start climbing to a small mountain via a twisty hard pack jeep track for about 6km before you enter the first brand new single track section comprising of some rocky up and downhills for approx. 2km. This is an easy to moderate section and takes you to the highest part of the route from where you can see both Stilbaai and Albertinia.

This is followed by a flat sandy jeep track section of approx. 8km before you climb and drop into the ‘sandpit’ where we’ve created some twisty sections through and over the pine trees and logs. After working a bit in the sand you get to rest a bit on a hard pack jeep track before you get to one of the steepest climbs on the route. The difficulty level of this climb is easyto moderate, but early commitment is needed.
Hereafter you get some twisty sandy and hard pack jeep track before you cross the Hectorskraal gravel road at approx. the 30km mark. This is quite close to the pits (+- 1km) and we’ll have a fuel stop available at this point if riders require this. Please bring your extra fuel which will be sent to this point.

The second part of the route is where things get ‘interesting’ and where the majority of route changes took place. You start off by climbing and then descending the mountain using a brand new 3.8km single track route before changing into a sandy jeep track taking you right around a second mountain. On this part of the loop you’ll get some thick sand and great hard pack jeep sections to make you work and give you an opportunity to rest a bit.

At around the 40km mark you’ll enter the second single track mountain section where you’ll encounter the longest steepest climb on the route. This part has great traction, but will need some momentum. This is followed by some twisty jeep track sections with various easy climbs to the 55km mark easing into a new single track section with moderate climbs a descends. We’ll give you some time to ‘rest’ a bit before you work a little towards the end. In all a great route that will satisfy riders across all skill levels
